I feel conflicted not so much about the book itself but about what I actually feel and what I think I should feel about this book. I want to like non-traditional, experimental fiction. And I’d really like not only just to like it but to unequivocally enjoy the reading of it. But that doesn’t bet nfl always happen. With Wittgenstein’s Mistress I appreciated it and thought about it a lot and am glad I read it, but I didn’t savor the experience. I didn’t mind putting it down after a while
With Sleepless Nights I felt something similar. I appreciate what she’s doing, and I enjoyed the reading of it more than I enjoyed Wittgenstein’s Mistress but I also didn’t mind putting it down after a while. I read this book in short chunks and the structure of the book makes that easy, http://www.enterbet.com with short “parts” and shorter sections within those parts and I don’t think I could have read it fast if I’d tried.pedro velasquezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04906868750940934366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8275808567357577735.post-84471582603097500722007-08-03T12:03:00.000-07:002007-08-03T12:03:00.000-07:00iliana--I understand the lost feeling. Imani (at The Books of My Numberless Dreams--sorry I'm not sure how to make that into a link in comments--pathetic, I know) wrote a great review and said that rereading it was really helpful for her. I liked the book, but not sure I'm going for a second time!Gentle Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09102364083044797155noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8275808567357577735.post-63472742382681632882007-08-03T10:29:00.000-07:002007-08-03T10:29:00.000-07:00This was a great review. It's not even a big book - what's wrong with me!! :)
You touched on something that I guess was the reason that I couldn't get into it. The feeling that it was or wasn't Hardwick who the book was about. I just felt lost basically.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8275808567357577735.post-73240703219627964712007-08-02T07:43:00.000-07:002007-08-02T07:43:00.000-07:00bookfool--I know, I saw that about the teeth!
