My friend Greg--poet, writer, children's literature aficionado, blogger extraordinaire--has a great monthly column called Book Talk on momready.com. At Book Talk, Greg passes along his recommendations for books for kids ages 0 to 12. Check out his column and his blog, GottaBook, which has fabulous poetry and lots of other great stuff.
Momready.com is a great spot to find mothering tips and talk, and also runs a periodic column called Rearing Readers: Everyday Ideas for Encouraging Literacy, which is worth checking out if you're a parent trying to get your kids to read without becoming a complete nagging bore. Okay, I admit it, sometimes I need help in this area.

Having spent the last year+ volunteering in the school library, I actually think I've become pretty good at getting kids to read what I think they'll like without them ever realizing I'm suggesting it :-). It's always hard to feel like you're not nagging. I mean, I still remember convos about books with my own mom. Yikes. Still, the reason my mom ultimately won me over is that she honestly only recommended great books. I'm still deeper in the learning curve on that one....

My sister-in-law and I have been getting our sons to recommend books to each other, so that way they don't think we have anything to do with it--so far, it's working...
