Giveaway results and Southern California winter beauty

The weather has calmed down around here, and we're having more of our normal winter thing--60s, clear, and you can actually see the mountains in the distance. Winter is my favorite time in Southern California, as the air is clear, so the views are spectacular. It's the only time of year the air is clear enough to see for miles. So I feel better oriented in the winter, more in touch with the land around me.

It's giveaway time! I picked four names out of a hat (okay, out of a colander), to give away four slightly used copies of Anne Enright's Booker Prize-winning novel The Gathering. Drumroll please...the winners are:

Joy

Stefanie

Eva

Aloi

Congratulations! If you four winners could email me your addresses, I will send the books asap. I'm at gentlereader1@hotmail.com. By the way, why do some bloggers list their email addresses with [at] and [dot] instead of the symbols? Do they not want to create links in their posts?

I wish I had more copies so I could give one to everyone who entered. That's my only problem with giveaways, I want everyone to win.

On my own reading front, I quickly finished my next two book group books, Shalom Auslander's Foreskin's Lament: A Memoir and Vendela Vida's Let the Northern Lights Erase Your Name. I'll share my thoughts soon.

OH MY GOODNESS! Thank you SOOOO much, Gentle Reader! I'm so excited. AND...this book is actually on a list for a challenge, so it will be read soon. :)

Woo Hoo! I'm very happy. I'm off to send you an e-mail. Weeeeeeee

Yay! I'm super excited as well! Personally, I write the at and dot to prevent spam trollers from finding my e-mail address and then spamming me. But I might be being paranoid-I'm not sure. I'll send you an e-mail. :)

joy--I'm so glad you're excited! Congratulations, and I'll send you the book soon :)

eva--well, the no spamming reason sounds good enough to me! I'm glad you're excited, too, and I'll be sending the book soon!

I was wondering why some wrote their email addresses like that too; glad to know! I haven't had spam problems yet.. maybe I should be preventative?

Oh yay! Thanks! My address is on the way via email. To answer your question about the [at] and the [dot], web crawlers that search for email addresses can't read [at] and [dot] and so cannot capture that email address for spamming purposes. I've got pretty good spam filtering so I just link my email and put up with the few spam that get through.

jeane--I had no idea about the spam thing, but I haven't had any trouble with spam...yet! If you read Stefanie's comment, she says that her spam filter helps, so maybe you and I don't need to be preventative...

stefanie--congrats, will be sending the book soon! I haven't had much trouble with spam, and now my husband informs me that we have a decent spam filter, too, so maybe that's why we haven't been spammed much. Though I should probably knock wood when I say that...
