You Know It's Good When...
...you stay up way past your bedtime reading, even when you know you have to get up at 6 a.m. the next morning to get your kid to the school bus on time.
That was me last night, finally cracking open something that's been on my list forever: The Blind Assassin, by Margaret Atwood. Yes, I am behind the curve on this one. But I'm so glad I finally got around to this book, because once I opened it I was completely sucked in. I didn't even look at the clock when I shut off the light last night, because I didn't want to calculate how few hours of sleep I'd be getting...
After I get my third child off to school, I think it's time for a nap!
I know you all have had this experience--reading far too long into the night because you just had to find out what happened next. Do you remember any of the books that you just couldn't put down, no matter how late it got?

This is so good to know because I still haven't taken it down from my TBR shelf. I think the size is a deterrent and all the other books that miraculously land on my shelves or in my hands! :) I look forward to your final thoughts.
This is a fabulous read, no doubt about it! I cannot remember the last time I was so absorbed by a book. It used to happen so much when I was younger and and had little responsibility.
Joy--you said it--that's my big problem--I have all the best intentions but I get sidetracked by all the other good books that come my way. But this is worth coming back to!
Tara--I hear you on having the time to get absorbed in a book. Ah, back when I was single and childless, it happened so much more often...
So glad you enjoyed this one - I love Atwood's novels!
I've had a few like this...but the one I remember the most was The Book Thief which I picked up on a Saturday and finished on a Sunday despite it being 550 pages long. I just couldn't put it down!
I'm a fan of Atwood but have not read this one so I'm even further behind the curve :)
Glad to hear it was an engrossing read.
It seems like I have this very same problem all the time. Right now I'm reading LITTLE BEE and I try to make sure that I go to sleep no later than mindnight. Sometimes I'm fighting against my drooping eyelids to get a couple more paragraphs read.
Wendy--I keep hearing that The Book Thief is one of those books--I'm going to have to put it to the top of my list :)
Iliana--I really need to read more of Atwood's work, because every time I do I'm reminded what a great writer she is!
planetbooks--Sounds like Little Bee is engrossing, too--I agree, the sign of a good book is that struggle to stay awake to read just a little more!
Thank you for pushing me to crack it up as well. I've got this book for ages and have seen it numerous times everywhere I go. I need to read it. The last time I read something regardless of the meager hours of sleep that would have incurred on me was The Name of the Rose.
Matt--I've heard that The Name of the Rose is another book like that--I actually own the book but haven't read it--shame on me!
I still love the cover of this book and it's one of my favorite Atwood novels.
Bybee--I love the cover, too!
