Back home again

Settling back in after another weekend away. These are champagne problems, I know. My hubby and I had a wonderful weekend in San Francisco to celebrate our fifteenth wedding anniversary. Some foodie friends recommended more restaurants than we could have possibly visited, but we chose to dine at Quince and Delfina, both of which were wonderful.

We also took a long walk from the Marina to Fort Point, just under the Golden Gate Bridge. The photo at left is of the bridge from inside the fort. I didn't have my camera, just my phone, so this is the only picture really worth posting. The rest are fuzzy or lopsided or both.

The weather was gorgeous, and so was the city. And the kids had fun staying with my parents, so everyone was happy.

I'm still full from all of the eating.

I did a little reading, too. I downloaded a couple of the Fairacre series of books on my Kindle, which I started. I got through Miss Clare Remembers and Emily Davis (The Fairacre Series 4 & 8). The Fairacre series chronicles life in a rural English village from the late 1800s through the middle of the next century. Not a lot actually happens in most of the books, but they are full of atmosphere, and I'm enjoying them.

I also started The Middle Place, by Kelly Corrigan, which I'm reading for my book group. It's a memoir about her battle with cancer, and her father's battle with cancer at the same time. I'm enjoying Corrigan's voice, and somehow, despite the obviously difficult subject matter, it's not really a depressing book. It's not just about cancer; it's about being a daughter and a mother, and so far, I like it.

We're leaving for SF in the morning, so I hope the good weather holds!

The Middle Place isn't depressing, I appreciated that. I listened to an audiobook though, and by the end was a bit annoyed with her voice.

Jill--have a great trip. Enjoy King Tut! If you get the weather we had, you'll be golden :)

I wonder if I'll be annoyed by Corrigan's voice in the regular book version?

I love Fort Point. Soooo cold though. I always think of Vertigo and Kim Novak jumping off the edge.

Quince is the best! I ate there last time I was in SF and was impressed by the waiter:diner ratio, which I swear was 1:1.

I enjoyed The Middle Place a lot - hope you do too.

The Middle Place was very uplifting. I hope you continue to enjoy it.

StephanieD--We were lucky--it was shrouded in fog when we set out, then it burned off while we were there, so it wasn't so bitter cold!

Gayle--OMG, that's what we thought--we'd never been to a restaurant with quite so many waiters before! But we felt well taken care of, because there was absolutely no attitude :)

Ti--I expect to keep enjoying it--I will certainly let you know!

Happy belated anniversary! My husband and I just celebrated our 18th earlier this week. October is a great month to make happy marriages :)

Happy Anniversary!! We celebrated 15 years too, this year. It's a good married stretch to be in, I think, big problems ironed out, children growing up. It sounds like you had a wonderful time away and I'm glad you could spend it alone together with children happily elsewhere!

Happy belated anniversary! I'm glad you had a great time in my city. The weather is gorgeous here today, 76 and sunny. Delfina is one of the finest restaurants in the city--the little pizzeria next door is just as good.

stefanie--thanks and congrats on 18!

litlove--it was so nice to be on our own, away from the kids. My husband and I kept joking about how nice it was that we still like each other after all this time. Congrats to you on your 15th, too!

matt--thanks! I love your city! We had gorgeous weather, and of course, amazing food. Next time I'd like to try Farina, which is just down the street from Delfina. Also, I didn't get a chance to go to one of my faves, The Slanted Door, this time. But I spent a lot of time buying yummy stuff at the Ferry Building :)
